Westminster High School Student Body Vice President Anna Lopez is bringing the voice of her fellow students to the WPS Board of Education (BOE). On Tuesday, October 8th she shared her thoughts with the community during her first meeting as Student Ambassador to the BOE.
Anna, a junior, was one of three worthy candidates interviewed by the board for the position. Kimberly Garcia Lopez and Ida McCoy were also considered.
Anna is currently enrolled in the IB Career Program with a CTE pathway in biomedicine. “A super important issue in our district is the students’ mental health,” Anna wrote in her application. “In recent years it has become more and more important that staff and officials learn how to help students with poor or declining mental health.” She added that she believes it is important for students and staff to have closer relationships. “I believe every student should have a chance to meet and create a bond with the higher-ups who are making decisions that affect their daily lives at school.”
What’s up WPS will have an in-depth profile of Anna later this year.
