A Note From Superintendent Gotto | May 14

Dear Westminster Public Schools Community,

Last week, we held one of the most important community meetings in our district’s recent history, as community members weighed in on our district’s future and how best to shape it.

Thank you to everyone who participated in the meeting as well as members of the Future Together Forwards Initiative (FTFI) committee which have spent hours looking at census data, birthrates and other pieces of key information about our facilities.

As we face the realities of declining student enrollment, we must take a thoughtful and transparent approach to the question of how best to use our buildings and resources in the years ahead. No decisions have been made, but like many districts across the country, we must consider whether closing or repurposing some school buildings may be necessary to ensure long-term sustainability and student success.

Our recent meeting was organized around six essential themes, each designed to promote open dialogue and gather meaningful input:

  • Vision and Values
  • Criteria for Decision Making
  • Timeline and Communication
  • Community Impact and Support
  • Ideas for Repurposing Schools
  • Feedback and Engagement

Attendees were invited to ask questions, share concerns, and offer creative solutions. In addition to in-depth conversations, many of our participants filled out “post it” notes that allowed them to share their thoughts in real time.

All the ideas and perspectives shared at this meeting are invaluable, and the FTFI committee will continue to explore them in the months ahead.

The committee will meet again in August, and we are committed to keeping this conversation open and inclusive. Even if you were unable to attend the meeting, we still want to hear from you. Please email your thoughts, questions, or suggestions to FTFI@wps.org.

There is still much work to do before any recommendations are brought forward to the Board of Education in late 2025 or early 2026. We are grateful for your partnership as we carefully navigate these decisions—always with the best interests of our students and community in mind.

Warm regards,
Dr. Jeni Gotto
